About Marist180

Marist180 (www.marist180.org.au) is a not-for-profit organisation committed to creating positive change for vulnerable young people and their families. Marist180 has been successful in its application to deliver the Intensive Therapeutic Care contract (replacing Out of Home Care in NSW), in Western Sydney, South West Sydney, Orange, Newcastle and Wollongong.

The Position

Serving as Executive Officer for the Marist180 Aboriginal Steering Committee (ASC), this role is pivotal for Marist180 and our vision to continue promoting a positive, culturally appropriate and inclusive environment for both Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander staff and the young people and families we serve. The primary responsibilities for this role includes:

  • Providing advice to the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and all other relevant staff across the Intensive Therapeutic Care (ITC) contract on cultural programs and community and cultural linkages
  • Establishment and maintenance of enduring relationships with key stakeholders both across and outside of the agency to support effective casework and cultural care of young people across 180Wellbeing ITTC, and Therapeutic Care residential and step down services
  • Working in close collaboration with organisational management to increase our number of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander staff within the agency, in line with the implementation and delivery of the new Intensive Therapeutic Care contract across NSW
  • Preparing reports in a timely fashion for the Senior Leadership Team, Board and the ASC;
  • Timely completion of cultural plans for all young people in the ITC including management of brokering cultural care funds with ATSI organisations across NSW
  • Liaising with and extracting advice from the ASC and partner organisations to realise the Aboriginal Placement Principles and support a successful delivery across the organisation

The Candidate

This is an Identified position for someone who is passionate about fostering positive partnerships and building culturally welcoming and safe avenues. We are seeking a unique individual who will lead collaboratively, drive positive change and be a voice of strength. Do you possess:

  • Knowledge and experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander community engagement; and experience working to support children, young people and/or families in local communities using a strengths-based approach?
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal organisations, Land Councils and other local Aboriginal services, organisations and corporations?
  • Knowledge of the child protection, education and/or justice systems?
  • Knowledge of the traditional lands of Aboriginal peoples in NSW/Australia and an understanding and appreciation of the different cultures and language groups?
  • Hold a Diploma or degree qualification in Social Work, Community Services, or disciplines relevant to community development and engagement?
