Centacare’s Foster Care Program offers Foster Care Placements to support children 0-17 years of age who are under Guardianship of the Minster and have been assessed by Department for Child Protection (DCP) as suitable to enter into a reunification plan with their birth families.  Should reunification not be successful, Centacare will support the child’s transition into a long term placement.  Centacare is currently providing a service within the Adelaide Metro region, Barossa and Adelaide Hills.

About the role....

The Foster Carer Support Worker is responsible for working in partnership with families, Foster Carers, Department for Child Protection (DCP) and other professionals in a multi-disciplinary team, whilst maintaining a strong child focus. The Foster Carer Support Worker will have case management experience in the field of child protection, knowledge of Social Work theories, models and underpinning frameworks (including therapeutic interventions for children with high and complex needs) and manage competing priorities.  The Foster Carer Support Worker will positively promote the program and a culturally safe environment, support foster carers and work well within a team.

 Applications are invited from professionals with a sound understanding of relevant legislation, child development and child protection risk factors.

What you will need....

 Essential:

  • Social Work Degree or equivalent
  • Understanding of therapeutic approaches for children and young people with trauma backgrounds
  • Knowledge of Child Protection Legislation
  • Case management experience

Desirable:

  • Experience in working in the Out of Home Care (OOHC) Sector
  • Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Placement Principles

Special Conditions:

  • Department Communities & Social Inclusion (Child Related) Employment Screening Clearance
  • Current Driver’s Licence
