About the Role:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an individual who is interested in pursuing their career as an Occupational Therapist with a focus on mental health supports within the community care sector. This position is full-time and a fixed term contract until 30 June 2019.

The primary purpose of this position is to support Chorus staff and contractors to assess and address customer barriers to optimal functioning through interventions that focus on enhancing existing skills, promoting wellness, and preventing relapse.

The Occupational Therapist (Mental Health) will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking assessments with Partners in Recovery customers with reduced psychosocial functioning and complete occupational therapy reports that support applications for the National Disability Insurance Scheme;
  • Assisting with the successful development and implementation of psychosocial mental health programs, including creating resources and processes;
  • Planning and implementing educational individual and/or group interventions in collaboration with Chorus staff and customers to address assertiveness, self-awareness, interpersonal and social skills and stress management;
  • Monitoring and evaluating interventions using occupation focussed outcome measures, and to modify intervention to ensure occupational goals are being achieved;
  • Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of theory and its application to practice;
  • Clearly articulating and promoting the role of occupational therapy within the setting;
  • Ensuring all written documentation represents the occupational therapy process, with a clear focus on function and occupational performance;
  • Providing cross-organisational support to other departments needing specialist occupational therapy support.

The successful candidate would be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to positively build effective working relationships, drive engagement, motivate staff, and influence culture;
  • Extensive experience within the mental health field;
  • Sound business planning; organisational; high level report writing; and administrative skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships in order to support the exchange of advice and information and early intervention in compliance with standards and legislation;
  • Ability to liaise with leaders and key stakeholders both internally and externally, with a strong customer focus;
  • Ability to think and act strategically, exercising sound judgement;
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines, sometimes working with incomplete information;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop policy and procedure;
  • Experience and an understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) psychosocial disability eligibility criteria;
  • Experience in administering functional assessments in the context of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).


  • Degree qualification in Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Social Work
  • AHPRA or relevant professional board registration;
  • National Police Clearance of 6 months or less currency;
  • Current Western Australian Drivers Licence;
  • Own vehicle;
  • Unlimited rights to work in Australia.
